🔪 Instructions:
1. Sauté the Filling
In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter with olive oil. Add sliced onions and cook for 3–4 minutes until soft. Add mushrooms, season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook until mushrooms are golden and any moisture has evaporated. Let cool slightly.
2. Prepare the Puff Pastry
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
Roll out the puff pastry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Use a sharp knife to make diagonal cuts along the sides, leaving the center intact for the filling.
3. Assemble
In the center of the pastry, layer sautéed mushrooms and onions, then the ham, followed by shredded cheese.
4. Braid It Up
Fold over the pastry strips, alternating sides to create a braid pattern over the filling. Seal the ends. Brush the entire braid with beaten egg.
5. Bake
Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed. Let cool for 5 minutes before slicing.
6. Serve
Garnish with fresh parsley or thyme and serve warm. Perfect with a green salad or as a party appetizer.
